Sand & gravel

A shovel resting in a pile of gravel

Our pit at Glenaree is where everything we make starts.

Material is washed, crushed and screened on site before it goes into our concrete and blocks. If you need sand or gravel on its own, ring the yard and ask what's available.

Strength classes, in plain English

A general guide to the classes people ask for most. If your engineer has specified a mix, that always wins.

  • C20/25

Blinding, mass fill and kerb bedding

    Exposure XC1 to XC2. Slump S2 to S3.

  • C25/30

Strip footings, house slabs, shed and garage bases

    Exposure XC2 to XC3. Slump S3.

  • C30/37

Reinforced walls, suspended slabs and columns

    Exposure XC3 to XC4, XF1. Slump S3 to S4.

  • C35/45

Slurry tanks, silage slabs and feed passages

    Exposure XA2 to XA3. Slump S3.

  • C40/50

Industrial floors, hard standing and loading aprons

    Exposure XD1, XF3. Slump S2 to S3.

In each class, the first number is the cylinder strength and the second the cube strength, in N/mm² at 28 days. Slump S2 is stiff, S4 is very workable.

Ordering a load

What do you need from me for a quote?

The strength class, how much you need, the site address or Eircode, and the date. If you have a mix design or an engineer's specification, send that too. If you're not sure, describe the job and we'll talk it through.

When is the yard open?

Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. The yard is closed at weekends. The quickest way to order is to ring 045 524 111 during those hours.

Can I add water to the mix on site?

It's best not to. Adding water on site raises the water/cement ratio and lowers the strength of the concrete you've paid for. If a mix is too stiff for how you're placing it, ring the yard before the next load rather than reaching for the hose.
